Scotland-upon-Thames: Scotland's Legacy to Richmond and Kew

What do these iconic landscapes have in common?

They were all created by Scots.

  1. Ham Houselandscaped by the Duke of Lauderdale.

  2. Richmond Park: enclosed by Charles I.

  3. Orleans House: built by James Johnston; designed by James Gibbs.

  4. Sudbrook House: built by the 2nd Duke of Argyll; designed by James Gibbs.

  5. Old Deer Park: enclosed by James I; Kew Observatory designed by William Chambers.

  6. Royal Botanic Gardens - Pagoda Tree: planted in Whitton by the 3rd Duke of Argyll, brought to Kew by the Earl of Bute, Kew’s first unofficial director, tended by William Aiton, Kew’s first botanical gardener.
